Thank you and farewell to Ross Jones

Ross Jones leaves the staff team on March 27th to enjoy a well earned retirement. He has been diligently working in the Property Manager role since 2018.

Ross has been an incredible asset to The Street in this role. He has fulfilled his job with high integrity and an evangelistic heart for everyone who comes through the properties. Ross has a wonderful sense of humour and will be missed by the team. We are very thankful for Ross and are pleased to be able to continue enjoying his and Sarah’s company as they attend East.

Pray for Congo

The ongoing war in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has brought immense instability, forcing countless families to flee their homes, leaving behind everything they own. In the city of Uvira alone, over thirty Christian families have been displaced. These dear brothers and sisters now face desperate conditions, in urgent need of food, shelter, and basic necessities. Even more devastating, we have learned that 70 Christians were recently beheaded in the northern part of this conflict by ISIS militants, who are exploiting the region’s turmoil to expand their influence. These atrocities—largely ignored by Western media—reflect a deep and growing crisis for the body of Christ in this region.

Please lift up our suffering brothers and sisters in prayer. Ask God for peace in the region, for national unity, and for His provision for these displaced families. Pray for His protection over His people, for strength in their suffering, and that the Gospel will continue to shine in the darkness.

Nelson and Rachel are with YWAM in Mazatlan and came back to NZ at the end of 2024. They welcomed Lani Neve into their family at the end of January and plan to return to Mexico around the end of March. Here is a video sharing about the work they are involved in with their different ministries in Mexico.

An informal weekly women’s breakfast, meeting at Swimsuit Coffee on Park Road. Contact hannah.silvester@thestreet.org.nz for more info.

Wednesday 12th March - Guys’ Breakfast 7-8am
An informal weekly men’s breakfast to hang out and connect. This is held either at Maranui or L'affare in town, depending on where people need to be for work. It is organised on a WhatsApp chat so if you are interested talk to Dan SIlvester to be added or email east@thestreet.org.nz

Wednesday 12th March - Community Dinner - 5.30pm
Every Wednesday, at Strathmore Community Centre, we run a free dinner for our local community as a way of being a blessing to the people of these suburbs- anyone is welcome. (If you’d like to help with this, even if it’s just occasionally, please get in touch - jenny.gill@thestreet.org.nz)

As we intentionally pursue ways of praying more for our suburbs, the churches of the eastern suburbs are gathering to pray in unity for God to move. We’ll also be launching a joint prayer walking initiative at this prayer night so please prioritise it in your calendars and let’s try and have as many of us there as we can.

Are you or someone you know interested in learning more about life, faith and Jesus? Alpha is a warm, friendly course where everyone is welcome. Over some food, explore what the Christian faith is all about through a series of dynamic videos and open discussion. This course will run fortnightly on Tuesdays in Miramar. Simon and Jenny are committed to continuing the journey as we learn about Te Ao Māori and what this means for us as a church whānau. This is not a quick, neat project we are racing through, but rather a longer journey of relationship building, learning and prayerful consideration.

As part of the refugee resettlement project, we have had the opportunity to connect with iwi and begin a relationship to learn and understand Te Ao Maōri, especially as it relates to the areas of Wellington where we as The Street Church gather.

The format of this will consist of a number of haerenga (journey) around Wellington on Sunday afternoons over 2025 and potentially into 2026.

The first opportunity is Sunday 6th April 1pm - 5pm (Location TBC, but will be somewhere in the Petone region)

If you would be interested in deepening your understanding and walking this learning journey with Simon and Jenny, please email mel.lienert@thestreet.org.nz by 23th March. There is a maximum capacity for the group, so once all the available spaces are filled the group will be closed.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the conclusion of this lesson, children will:

  • Hear that there will be storms in our lives

  • Know that Jesus is always with us

  • Understand that the Bible doesn’t promise a comfortable life, but Jesus will always be our comforter.

Life Groups

Life Groups really are the heart of our church. They are small groups of people who can encourage one another as we all seek to follow Jesus together. They are spaces where you have the opportunity to get to know people on a deeper level than will ever be possible at a Sunday service. They are places where you can dig into the Bible together and pray for one another. If you are not in a Life Group and you’d like to be, please get in touch and we would love to help you find one.

Baptism

Jesus clearly instructed us that when we repent and choose to follow him, baptism is the first step in that new life of following him. If you haven’t been baptised and would like to be, please get in touch and we’d love to talk to you about it. Email east@thestreet.org.nz or talk to your life group leader or Simon and Jenny.

Giving financially to your local church is a Biblical principle that is key to training each of our hearts in generosity and is a declaration that money is not our master. The money you give here is used to lead and operate this location of The Street, but also more widely to support The Street as it seeks to reach Wellington with the gospel. It also helps support several national ministries and international missions.
