Kids Zone - October

The 6th of October is a school holiday weekend, and most of our services take a break from Kids Zone. Your children are welcome in the adult service and this is a precious time as a family (though perhaps a little more distracted!) Children learn from what is modelled to them, and these moments in an adult service are a wonderful learning opportunity.

October the 13th is our Together service at Wellington College. We have an amazing Kids Zone planned for creche aged to Year 8. The 3, 4, and 5 year olds will be focussing on God’s promise of a rescue plan through the story of Noah and the rainbow God placed in the sky. The Year 2 - Year 8’s will be treated to a Guest Speaker! Toby Gray, a young lad who is passionate about Jesus and sharing the Good News with children. Toby will be joining us to share what is on his heart from the story of Daniel.

On the 20th and 27th of Oct we start a new series called Pillars. These are the core pillars of belief the Church is built on. The WHOLE church will be interacting with this message. What a blessing for Kids Zone to be learning the same content. Kids Zone starts with Communion and then look at Orthodoxy.

New CAP Debt Coach!

Rochelle Jackson has recently been appointed as a new Debt Coach with CAP and will attend full training with CAP in Auckland in a few weeks time.

The Debt Coach role is a significant volunteer role and we are grateful for this provision. Rochelle will be intimately walking alongside many in their most troubled times. She has expressed a particular interest in working in the Eastern suburbs, where there is a great need for CAP’s services.

Please pray for Rochelle, Toby and their three kids as Rochelle courageously steps into this new season.

24/7 Prayer Room

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

The Prayer Room is open 24/7 for you to book a one-off or regular prayer slot!

We know that prayer is THE most important thing we can be doing as a church community. Pete Grieg, the founder of 24/7 Prayer, said:

”I'm actually not into prayer. I’m into Jesus, so we talk.
I don’t believe in the power of prayer. I believe in the power of God.
So I ask for his help. A lot.”

We agree!

Kids Zone - September

The first week of September is Father’s Day. We stop to celebrate and dive into the story of the Prodigal Son. We then continue learning about genres in the Bible, focussing on the prophets, the gospels and the letters. We finish looking at how genres mix sometimes!

The shared lunch team needs you!

The monthly shared lunches are a wonderful addition to our gatherings at Mt Vic. They have helped create space to get to know each other and share more deeply together.

In order for the shared lunches to continue, we need to grow the team.

We need two additional ‘point people’ who are willing to take the lead once every four months, as well as four people to join the set up team and four people to join the pack down team. The set up and pack down team members will then be able to be rostered 2-3 months.

Please email Mel Lienert on mel.lienert@thstreet.org.nz to register your interest. The lunches on 29th Sep or 27th of Oct would be a wonderful time to get stuck in!

Job Vacancies - Youth Pastor and CAP Debt Coach

We are sad to let you know, that our youth pastor; Matt Swank has handed in is resignation, largely due to burnout. His last day will be Sunday 8th September. Matt and Ang, along with their children; Reuben, Jael, and Abigail will be leaving The Street to explore ways to make disciples, and potentially church planting/micro churches. We are so grateful for the way their whole family has poured so much love and energy into the young people here at The Street and we want to pray that God would bless them abundantly as they make this transition.

This does mean that we are now seeking to recruit a new Youth Pastor to replace Matt. The role is 30-40 hours per week and would suit someone who is passionate about helping our young people become multiplying disciple-makers.

We are also looking to fill a volunteer role within our Christians Against Poverty Debt Centre. Merrie who is our Debt Centre Manager leads a team of Debt Coaches who are trained by CAP to engage with clients to deliver the specialist debt help that CAP partners with us to provide to people in unmanageable debt. We particularly need a debt coach who could focus on meeting clients in the eastern suburbs of Wellington. You don’t have to live in the eastern suburbs, but you would be predominantly visiting clients in that area. The role is a voluntary role that requires approximately 8-12 hours per week. You do not need any previous financial experience as full training will be provided. The most important requirement is that you love Jesus and are committed to sharing his love with those who are struggling with debt.

Applications close 9th of September. If you would like to know more about either of these roles, please contact the office for the Job Description and details of how to apply. Email: office@thestreet.org.nz

CAP client in need, can you help?

Expressions of love can be shown in many different ways. Often, extending the love of Jesus is practical. Meeting a felt need of someone. Through the incredible ministry of CAP we are able to come alongside someone experiencing crippling debt and be part of their journey to financial freedom.

Our CAP debt centre manager, Merrie, is currently supporting a client and her two teenage daughters who have a few specific needs and we would love to be able to meet these for her. Please get in touch with office@thestreet.org.nz if you are able to help in any way.

  • A tumble dryer. Doesn't need to be new, but does need to work.

  • Fix a garage door? The roller type.

  • Plumber who could fix a toilet. It leaks around the base.

  • Warm woman’s clothes size 6/8/10

Welcome to our new staff members!

Recently we have had two wonderful people join our staff team. Anna Watson: Life Groups Pastor and Piper Clare: Associate Youth Pastor. We are very thankful for them both!

Hi, I’m Anna! I’m married to Matt and we have two boys. I was born and raised in the Hutt Valley and studied at Victoria University before I moved overseas with Youth With A Mission. I spent ten years with YWAM, serving in Colorado, Southern France and then most recently we were in Tauranga. We moved back to Wellington at the end of 2020 and since then I’ve been mum to our boys, have run a weekly community playgroup at Knox Church and also have my own family photography business. I’m really excited to now be a part of The Street team!

Kia Ora! My name is Piper and I am super excited to be starting as the new Associate Youth Pastor here at The Street. I have called this church home since 2016 so about 8.5 years now. I went to The Massive when I was in high school and have been a leader there for the last 3.5 years. I recently finished a 2 year qualification in youth work/development and am super passionate about young people. When I'm not at The Street, I also work at Scripture Union NZ as part of their youth team as the Wellington Youth Consultant. In that role I work with youth pastors, churches and youth leaders around the lower North Island to help equip, train and resource them. My parents/family attend the East location while I mostly attend the Night service on Sundays!

Kids Zone - June

Over the month of June we explore a short series on Morality. We learn about right and wrong, where we can learn the truth about these ideas, where they come from and how ‘right’ is central to God’s character.

On June 28th, we spend time looking at Matariki.

Sport's Chaplaincy Opportunity

Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand currently has more teams and clubs wanting chaplains, than the number of chaplains they are able to provide.

If you love God, care about people, and can roll with the triumphs, trials and tragedies of sport, then you may have what it takes to be a sports chaplain.

They are seeking volunteers who can commit 4-6 hours per week. They supply training, accreditation and support to place you in a local sports community as a sports chaplain.
