Funeral for Kody Schleif

Dakoda Raymond Earnest Schleif

12/10/2007 - 31/3/25

It is with much sadness that we share the passing of Kody Ray.

The Schleif family have been part of The Street Church for over 20 years. During the past decade, they have been unable to regularly attend Sunday services due to Kody's medical needs, but Ange has a deep connection with her Mosaic group and many, many families from across The Street Locations will have a connection with the family in some capacity.

Kody's fighting spirit and love for his family, which shined through till the end, will be sorely missed.

A funeral for Kody will be held from 11am at 9 Hania St on Thursday the 10th of April.

Anyone is welcome to join Ange, Shawn, Brooklyn, Paxton and their wider family and friends for this celebration of Kody's life and to say goodbye.

Thank you and farewell to Ross Jones

Ross Jones leaves the staff team on March 27th to enjoy a well earned retirement. He has been diligently working in the Property Manager role since 2018.

Ross has been an incredible asset to The Street in this role. He has fulfilled his job with high integrity and an evangelistic heart for everyone who comes through the properties. Ross has a wonderful sense of humour and will be missed by the team. We are very thankful for Ross and are pleased to be able to continue enjoying his and Sarah’s company as they attend East.

Cultural Orientation

Simon and Jenny are committed to continuing the journey as we learn about Te Ao Māori and what this means for us as a church whānau. This is not a quick, neat project we are racing through, but rather a longer journey of relationship building, learning and prayerful consideration.

As part of the refugee resettlement project, we have had the opportunity to connect with iwi and begin a relationship to learn and understand Te Ao Maōri, especially as it relates to the areas of Wellington where we as The Street Church gather.

The format of this will consist of a number of haerenga (journey) around Wellington on Sunday afternoons over 2025 and potentially into 2026.

The first opportunity is Sunday 6th April 1pm - 5pm (Location TBC, but will be somewhere in the Petone region)

If you would be interested in deepening your understanding and walking this learning journey with Simon and Jenny, please email mel.lienert@thestreet.org.nz by 23rd March. There is a maximum capacity for the group, so once all the available spaces are filled the group will be closed.

Click here to read about Ali, who will be leading these haerenga.

Introducing Emma Roche

We are celebrating another incredible answer to prayer!

In December 2024 Emma Roche was appointed as the Location Pastor for Night. Given the busy end of the year period, we left a pause before now sharing a little bit about Emma and her heart for this new role and the Night community. Emma will continue on part-time in the Children's Pastor role.

Please continue praying for Emma and Isaac, and the Night Location as they transition into this new season.

Prepare to Parent: School Years

Do you have a child preparing for or is a junior in primary school this year?

We are currently piloting a new course, written specifically for families heading into the school years.

The transition periods in family life have a profound impact on discipleship and this course is designed to guide you through some of what you can expect, so you can prepare well. The course is video based and can be completed at home at a time that suits your rhythm.

Children's Ministry Intern

Leadership development is an important part of how we make disciples. Multiplying leaders ensures the ministry of the future is equipped to thrive.

We are excited to welcome Em Napier to the staffing team as an intern for 2025. Em will work with Geneva and Emma in the Central Children's Team.

Hi, I’m Em and I’ve been a member of The Street Church for 7 years, serving as Mt Vic’s Children’s Ministry Local Lead for the last 17 months. Originally born in England, I have called Wellington my home for 29 years and love exploring the great outdoors here and around New Zealand on foot and bike. For the last 18 years I have been blessed to be a stay-at-home mum/home-schooling mum, a journey which brought both my son and I to our faith in Jesus.

As a child I heard Bible stories but I wasn’t encouraged to explore faith any further. After decades of mental health struggles, I finally found my worth and joy in the Lord and these life experiences have given me the passion to share our greatest treasure with children so that they can experience the fullness of life with God from an early age.

I’m looking forward to learning about and contributing to the Central Children’s Ministry’s work and growing in my faith this year through the opportunities that God provides.

Multiply - a series not to miss!

Our Vision is to become a disciple-making movement transforming Wellington and the world with the good news of Jesus Christ.

But what will it take to achieve this vision, and what will our church look like when we get there?

Over the month of March, Simon and Jenny will lead us through a series called Multiply. It's an exciting and inspiring series about the future and the part we can all play in seeing the vision become a reality. These are weeks you do not want to miss.

We will dive into the practices of Silence & Solitude, Hospitality, Sabbath and finishing the last week of February with Generosity.

Kids Zone Junior learns from the following Bible stories under the topics God Loves Me and God Created Me. Jesus is Coming, Jesus Calms the Storm, Food from Heaven, Samson and Noahs Ark. Kids Zone Junior uses the Beginner’s Bible.

Marriage: Summer Refresh

Marriage is less about the big milestones and more about the everyday relationship. Keeping a marriage thriving from the day you say 'I do', till death do you part, needs ongoing investment.

Choosing to do one thing every year to enrich your marriage feeds into this investment.

Since 2019, Families Ministry at The Street has produced a short, summer refresh sheet for married couples. Some simple ideas to reflect on and perhaps action over the summer to fuel the fire for the coming year.

New Location Pastor - Mt Vic

We are celebrating the appointment of Josiah Nevell as Location Pastor of our Mt Vic Location. This is an incredible answer to prayer and we are so grateful to God.

If you’re not a part of Mt Vic, you may recognise Josiah from leading worship online or at Together. He loves people and has a desire to walk alongside them through the highs and lows. He’s a gifted and humble leader who desires to see the church love Jesus more wholeheartedly. We are so looking forward to him joining the team.

His appointment is as an Associate Location Pastor which acknowledges he has the character and commitment to lead but needs time and investment to develop the experience. It means he has the same job description but will carry this out under the supervision of Simon for the first 12-18 months.

Please pray for Josiah as he steps into this new season. You can send encouragement and congratulations to him at josiah.nevell@thestreet.org.nz

Check out this video to meet Josiah

New Youth Pastor!

Peter Crosson

We are thrilled to share some exciting news for our Youth and Intermediate age ministry!

God has certainly gone before us and provided abundantly as we welcome Peter Crosson as our new Youth Pastor. Pete has a strong sense of calling to this role and is passionate about discipling and leading young people. He brings valuable experience, currently serving as a Youth Pastor in Island Bay and in wider Youth Ministry over a number of years. We are excited to see how God will work through him alongside both the Squad and Massive teams, and also as he works alongside our Locations to see our young people becoming multiplying disciple-makers.

Pete is currently finishing up his university studies and wrapping up a part-time youth role at another church, which he will continue until the end of the year. In the meantime, Jenny, Piper, and the rest of the team have a great plan in place to keep things running smoothly until Pete can join us full time.

We look forward to the future of our youth ministry and are confident that it is in good hands. If you have any questions or would like more information, please don't hesitate to reach out.
